Lyon’s Memphis Depay to be fined after missing preseason training
Memphis Depay will be fined for missing the start of Lyon’s preseason training, the Ligue 1 club has said.
Depay was conspicuous by his absence as his Lyon teammates started preparations for the 2018-19 campaign on Tuesday.
The Netherlands international, who is under contract with the seven-time French champions until 2021, can now expect to be hit in the pocket when he eventually turns up.
“There’s one player of the 27 missing, that’s Memphis,” coach Bruno Genesio told media. “He’ll be punished financially when he returns. He has had five weeks of holiday like the others.”
The former PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United forward, 24, scored 19 goals in 36 league games for Lyon last season to help his club finish in third place in Ligue 1 and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
