Tottenham’s Harry Kane suffers ankle injury against Bournemouth
BOURNEMOUTH — Harry Kane limped off with an ankle injury as Tottenham Hotspur won 4-1 at Bournemouth on Sunday.
Kane appeared to turn his ankle in a collision with goalkeeper Asmir Begovic midway through the first half with Spurs trailing 1-0.
The England striker, who sustained ankle ligament damage in an FA Cup win over Millwall almost a year ago, hobbled around the pitch to the dugout where he spoke with Spurs’ medical team before being replaced by Erik Lamela.
He later left the stadium on crutches and with his foot in a protective boot.
Speaking after the match, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said Kane would be evaluated on Monday.
“We need to wait until tomorrow. After tomorrow he will have a scan on his ankle,” Pochettino said.
“Of course he suffered an injury that is in the same ankle as he suffered before. But I hope and we hope it’s not a massive issue.
“It was between him and the doctor. Always the decision is between him and the doctor. He felt that when he landed and twisted his ankle it was impossible to stay on the pitch.
“He is positive. Harry has a great character and is always positive. He’s happy with the victory for the team, disappointed of course with his problem. But now if you are positive then you start the recovery from the injury now.”
Asked about Danny Rose, who was replaced with 10 minutes remaining, Pochettino said: “There was no injury.
“It was only fatigue and he got a knock. I think, after a few times, to play again in a Premier League game is tough for a player that has not played regularly.”
Dele Alli also went off and Pochettino said: “I don’t believe that is a big issue. We need to manage him over the next week, but I don’t think it will be a big problem.”
Kane has scored 35 goals this season and is tied with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah on 24 goals in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Spurs play Swansea in the FA Cup quarterfinals next Saturday.
