Patrice Evra joined West Ham on a free transfer earlier this week.

West Ham United manager David Moyes said he had no qualms about signing Patrice Evra and that he understands why the defender kicked a fan who abused him.

Evra, 36, was banned by UEFA from all European club competition until the end of the season and had his contract terminated by Marseille after he kicked at a supporter in November.

But with West Ham in the midst of an injury crisis, Moyes, who coached the full-back at Manchester United in 2013-14, signed him on a free transfer.

“I’ve got no concerns about how he left Marseille, not from what he told me what happened,” said Moyes, who did not share the details of the conversation. “He told me what the supporter said. I’d have no complaints.”
