The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) international continues to shine for his Spanish club, Villarreal.

Bakambu was on the scoresheet for the Yellow Submarine as they defeated Spanish Segunda B side SD Ponferradina on Thursday.

Villarreal secured a 3-0 win at home with Bakambu scoring twice for the hosts at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

The brace took the Congolese marksman’s tally to five goals in his last three matches in all competitions.

The 26-year-old is also the club’s top goalscorer this season – having hit the back of the net 14 times in all competitions.

Only FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has scored more goals than Bakambu in the Spanish La Liga thus far this season.

The Argentine superstar has netted 13 goals – four more than Bakambu with 24 La Liga matches left.

Bakambu was unable to help his side avoid a defeat against Leganes, who defeated Villarreal 3-1 in a league game on Sunday.

The forward will look to inspire the Yellow Submarine to victory when they face Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv in an UEFA Europa League match on Thursday.
